I thought twice about doing this post because to me, my skin care staples are boring products I just can’t go without. It’s not an exciting post on something I’ve just tried and fell in love with. However, I quickly remembered why I started blogging in the first place: To share my thoughts on products. “Boring staples in my bathroom” might be a new discovery for someone else.
Believe it or not, I love makeup, but I’m more obsessed with skincare. I’ve been obsessed with skincare since I was about eleven years old! Makeup is supposed to be used to enhance beauty. What good is it if we don’t take care of our skin? Makeup is FUN but skincare is IMPORTANT. I could go on and on about skincare but I’ll just get to the point of this particular post!
Being the skincare junkie I am, I’ve tried and tested out numerous products. Although I still continue to try new things out, I have certain products that I buy over and over again. They’re products I just can’t imagine not having as a backup. I don’t have a staple product for everything, but these are the ones I constantly keep on hand no matter what other skincare products I’m testing out.
PETER THOMAS ROTH MAX COMPLEXION CORRECTION PADS: Luckily I’ve never had problems with severe acne; however, I do have the occasional hormonal breakout around my chin. Also, when trying out new hair care products, I sometimes get a few blemishes on the side of my face. Although it’s not constant, it’s enough for me to want to prevent it. This is the BEST acne/pore prevention that I have found. I’m on my 3rd bottle and I’ll continue to purchase them until they no longer work for me. At first I used them every day for a week. Then to avoid dryness I started using them every other day and now I’m at the point where I use them about once or twice a week just to maintain clear skin. I take a warm/hot shower to open up my pores and then use an intense exfoliate (I’m constantly changing brands) on my face. Immediately after I get out of the shower, I swipe the pad all over my face while my pores are still open and my dead skin is removed.
One jar contains 60 pads and I find that one pad is way too much for my face (and I have a HUGE face). I cut them in halves and sometimes I cut them in quarters. These are amazing pads, I could go on and on about them! If you’d like a more in depth review, just let me know!
KIEHL’S MIDNIGHT RECOVERY CONCENTRATE: This serum is SO amazing in many ways! I use other serums for anti-aging; however, I constantly combine this into my skincare routine. I layer this on top of other serums I use at night and then apply my moisturizer, the perfect facial cocktail! If ever my skin feels dry, dull, or irritated, I use an extra amount of this at night and the problem is completely taken care of by morning. This also lasts FOREVER! It’s unbelievable how long it takes it to go through one bottle. I reviewed this product HERE if you’d like more info.
KIEHL’S CREAMY EYE TREATMENT WITH AVOCADO: I have a secret affair with eye cream. I Love it, adore it, and can’t get enough of it! This eye cream is basic yet so wonderful! It doesn’t doing anything but provides intense moisture which I need since I suffer from dry under eyes. I use other eye creams for other things (KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR UPCOMING POSTS ON MY NEW EYECREAM LOVERS) but I always keep this on hand. If ever the corners of my eyes get irritated from trying a new product, I use this and the problem is solved. I also use this under drier concealers to make the application easier to blend out. I reviewed this HERE if you want more details.
ESTEE LAUDER DAYWEAR SHEER TINT RELEASE: I’ve tried many tinted moisturizers and there are quite a few gems out there! However, the one I always come back to is Estee Lauder Daywear. I find it not only evens out my skin but it also makes my skin look healthy and glowing. In my opinion, if I’m going to throw on a tinted moisturizer, it might as well include anti-oxidants and provide protection. This is perfect to wear if you’re skipping makeup and letting your skin breathe. I’ve read reviews on it being too dark for fair skin. However, I’m an NW25 and I’ve never had a problem. In fact, it applies effortlessly and never shows up even in direct sunlight. I also own Origins’ infamous VitaZing and to me, this is just that, but better!
EXCUSE THE GROSS BOTTLE, IT SITS IN MY SHOWER!
PHILOSOPHY MICRO-MASSAGE EXFOLIATING WASH: I don’t use this as my face wash and I don’t use it to get an intense exfoliation. I do however keep this on hand for those days that I want a little more exfoliation but have previously used an intense scrub. This is a scrub yet it’s extremely gentle so I find that I can use this to offer that extra smoothness I need sometimes without over doing it. Exfoliating my face can be addicting to me! Although it’s important to exfoliate, it’s also important not to OVER exfoliate. So when I need my little extra scrub kick and it’s not quite time for a treatment, I turn to this. In fact, I have the family hooked on it (hence the enormous bottle).
L’OREAL REVITALIFT RADIANT SMOOTHING WET CLEASING TOWELETTES: I discovered these by accident! I had tried several brands of the makeup wipes and I always went back to Neutrogena. However, I always had to use two wipes to remove makeup (and I don’t even wear a lot of face makeup!). I also couldn’t use them around my eyes because like other brands, they irritated the skin around my eyes. One day I asked my husband to pick up Neutrogena wipes for me while he was at the drug store and because they didn’t have them, he picked up these (God forbid he came home without my makeup wipes!) I was disappointed but tried them anyway, and I’ve stuck to them ever since! They are SO moist! They never dry out like other wipes, I only have to use ONE wipe to remove my makeup AND I can use them around my eye area to clean up whatever was left behind! AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING
HEMPZ ORIGINAL HERBAL BODY MOISTURIZER: You are INSANE if you’ve never tried this! I love trying new body lotions out (especially from Origins!) but have used this for about ten years now. It smells like heaven and it does wonders for my dry skin! Using this helps keep my skin moisturized and saves me when I get so dry that my skin feels itchy!
I LOVE talking about skincare and if I get brave enough, I’ll post my current routine. I just fear it might be excessively long and complicated! I’ve discovered some amazing products, so keep an eye out for more skincare raves!
