Aloha lovelies! I’ve been debating whether or not to post this as I know the bloggersphere has been overrun with posts about MAC’s latest Viva Glam offering! That being said I really like this lippie and so wanted to share my thoughts.
Nicki Minaj is one of the latest celebrities to join MAC’s Viva Glam campaign alongside Ricky Martin. In case you don’t know about the Viva Glam products, they are basically limited edition products released to raise money for the MAC AIDS Fund. Unlike a lot of charity products 100% of the proceeds from the Viva Glam products go to the charity which is really nice to see and means we can all do something to support a great cause. The Viva Glam products cost the same price as a normal MAC products so the Nicki Minaj lippie will set you back £13.50.
Anything with Nicki Minaj’s name on it was always going to be super fun and bright and it’s a beautiful shade. It’s a yellow based bright pink and when I swatched it in store I was surprised how much I liked it. Because of my skin tone my chosen lipstick shades are almost always blue toned. However, this shade looks different on just about everyone and it’s not too yellow that it doesn’t suit fairer skin tones. Don’t get me wrong, its bright so if you don’t like neon shades this isn’t for you! On darker skin tones it’s probably a lot more wearable and it’ll definitely be more of a summer night out colour for me then something I’d get away with everyday! Be warned, as with most yellow toned shades it can make you’re teeth look a little bit on the yellower side so that’s definitely something to be aware of.
It’s a satin finish which I normally avoid because it can be a touch drying. As with all Viva Glam lipsticks though I don’t feel like this is a typical satin finish (same as Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi didn’t feel like typical lustre finishes). Viva Glam Nicki wasn’t overly drying at all and was quite creamy when applied. Despite my lips being a touch on the drier side it didn’t make that too obvious.
When I was in store I was originally quite interested in Watch Me Simmer from the Shop Mac, Cook Mac collection. However, it’s actually really similar to the Nicki Minaj shade and seeing as it’s for a good cause I went for this one instead. As always for MAC the pigmentation is excellent. It’s rich and creamy and an all round lovely, fun summery shade.
Viva Glam Nicki is available in store and online now. It’s limited edition so if you’re interested snap it up quick! (Link to MAC UK)
